What is the difference between Islam and Christianity?
Salam upon you, Muslims!
In the thread: Death of Christ in Islam
we discussed Suras speaking about death of the Christ. We saw that Islam (the Quran and Hadith) say the same what the Holy Bible says.
Let me ask you to show me Suras saying what is the difference between Islam and the Holy Bible then?
Does it not look like that Islam is the same what is Christianity? Uh?
Let me remind you the thread : Death of Christ in Islam:
Brothers, as salamu aleikum!
Lets discuss what Islam said about death of Jesus. Say Suras and lets consider them.
Christianity says that the crucifixion of Jesus Christ was much WORSE than most you know!
Before His crisifiction Jesus said that He is a King of Israel and mentioned to Jews a prophesy/prediction about His death:
“Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” John 2
They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” But the temple he had spoken of was his body. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.
They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked him. "Hail, king of the Jews!" they said. They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him.
His back was beaten, beard was pulled out, and face spit upon. Jesus predicted that: I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting. (Isaiah 50:6).
Jesus was also struck in the face. He was punched in the face multiple times. Jewish religeous leaders spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped Him. Some began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him with their fists. To state that Jesus was flogged by the Roman soldiers is to say that he was beat bloody with a whip with nine lashes that had sharp objects at the end of the lashes to bruise and tear the flesh. Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spit on him.
Besides the physical beatings Jesus went through there was also the mockery and insults from various evil people.
The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe and went up to him again and again, saying, "Hail, king of the Jews!" And they struck him in the face. Imagine the sharp piercing pain the Lord felt as the long needle-like thorn tips penetrated Jesus' scalp. Certainly, he must have bled profusely from the various wounds these thorns produced.
God laid on Him all our sins like God Himself crushed us for our iniquities. God punished us through his sufferings. His wounds healed us.
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Yet it was the Lord's will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.
It was God’s will to crush us for our sins but God crushed His Son instead of us.
Jesus predicted in the prophesies:
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me. My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death. Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.
Yes, this prophesy was fulfilled: "Not one of his bones will be broken," and, as another scripture says, "They will look on the one they have pierced."
His appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred beyond human likeness. he was bruised, lacerated, swollen and bloody beyond human likeness! He also had spit and dirt on his precious body!
God predicted His death 1,500 years before that happened (2,000 years before the existence of Islam), saying this prophesy. This ancient prophesy is the basis of our christian faith! We just believe what God predicted so many years ago before the birth of Jesus on our planet:
Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.
Surely he took up our pain
and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way;
and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
By oppression and judgment he was taken away.
Yet who of his generation protested?
For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was punished.
He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death,
though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.
Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand.
After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied;
by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.
Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong,
because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors.
For he bore the sin of many,
and made intercession for the transgressors.
Just think, Jesus could have had twelve legions of angels come at any time to stop this torture:
Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? (Mat 26:53)
But if he would have stopped it, then all of mankind would be headed for eternal damnation in the lake of fire with no possible way to escape!
So, lets discuss Islam:
The Quran says in S. 4:157-158:
"And because of their (the Jews) saying: We slew the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, Allah's messenger- they slew him not nor crucified him, but it appeared so unto them; and lo! those who disagree concerning it are in doubt thereof; they have no knowledge thereof save pursuit of a conjecture; they slew him not for certain. But Allah took him up unto Himself. Allah was ever Mighty, Wise."
Islam says here that Jesus was taken up to Allah. Christianity says the same: God took Jesus to Heaven.
"Never said did I to them Aught except what Thou Didst command me To say, to wit, `Worship God, my Lord and your Lord'; And I was a witness over them whilst I dwelt Amongst them; when thou Didst take me up (Arabic- tawaffaytani) Thou wast the Watcher Over them, and Thou art a witness to all things."
The phrase "when Thou didst take me" is a form of the Arabic word tawaffa.The term is nearly always used in the Quran to imply one who is taken at death.
A hadith in Sahih Bukhari:
Narrated Ibn Masud says:
As if I saw the Prophet talking about one of the Prophets whose nation had beaten him and caused him to bleed, while he was cleaning the blood of his face and saying, "O Allah! Forgive my nation for they have no knowledge." Bukhari Vol. 4:683
This is what we see in the Bible: the only prophet who was beaten and uttered such words was Jesus Christ as he lay crucified on the cross of Calvary:
"There were also two others, criminals, led with Him to be put to death. And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left. Then Jesus said, `Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do." Luke 23:32-34
Surah 4:157 does not deny Jesus' crucifixion, but simply denies that it was the Jews who were responsible for the crucifixion.
"Ye (Muslims) slew them not, but Allah slew them. And thou (Muhammad) threwest not when thou didst throw, but Allah threw, that He might test the believers by a fair test from Him. Lo! Allah is Hearer, Knower." Surah 8:17
Islam says that it wasn't the Jews who crucified Christ but God's set purpose which allowed Christ to be crucified. This is precisely what the Bible teaches.
