Lets continue reading the Sermon on the Mount uttered by the Christ. The Sermon on the Mount is the most famous sermon Jesus ever gave, perhaps the most famous sermon ever given by anyone.
Jesus changed or calcelled some laws of God: 1) stoning was canceled. 2) diatery or food laws are not applicable to Christians. 3) observation of laws like the Sabbath is cancelled. 4) circumcision for christians is canceled and forbidden. But Jesus gave us many new laws/commands to implement. Lets continue consideration of them now:
Matthew 5:38-42 - Eye for an Eye
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
Jesus said here that we should not revenge. We should turn the other cheek to the offender. If somebody steals from you, give him more. If somebody asks for help to borrow from you, help him.
Matthew 5:43-48 - Love your enemies
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Jesus said here to geet evil people too, love all, love enemies and pray for those who persecute you. Doing that you will be sons of God. Because God gives his sun to shine to all and to the unrighteous and rain to the unrighteous too.
Matthew 6:1-4 - Give to the Needy
“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Jesus said here that God will reward for our righteous deeds if we give help to the needy.
